Before passing the Toxic-Tobacco Law, members of Congress will need to know that their constituents support the Law. Therefore, one of our goals is to collect 1,000,000 signatures from all 50 States and territories on a petition urging the U.S. Congress to pass the Toxic-Tobacco Law.

The Toxic-Tobacco Law petition can be signed by people of ALL ages. For example, many young people know that the toxic-tobacco companies are trying to entice and addict new young customers. And, they want this predatory behavior to stop. Since these young people have a great stake in the future public health of the United States, their voices should be heard. Moreover, by the time Congress is prepared to debate the proposed Toxic-Tobacco Law, many of these young signers will be voters.

We also have petitions for our international neighbors who also have a great stake in bringing the toxic-tobacco industry under control. At the 11th World Conference on Tobacco OR Health in Chicago (August, 2000) delegates from Australia, Burkina Faso (Africa), Canada, Denmark, Germany, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, and Peru signed the Toxic-Tobacco Law petition.

Stateside petition signers live in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Puerto Rico. That's 25 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

Smokers and non-smokers are willing signers of the petition. The Toxic-Tobacco Law does not present a threat to current users of toxic-tobacco because, unlike Prohibition, the Law provides that toxic-tobacco will still be legally available to adults after the Law goes into effect.
